Shema: addressing and alleviating extreme poverty and human trafficking
Aug. 04, 2016
Shema is our response to a hurting world. Our aim is addressing and alleviating extreme poverty and human-trafficking through engaging in ethical textile manufacturing and documenting the work by highlighting those involved globally through film. We chose Shema for our company name. A word meaning "hear," Shema reflects our vision to hear with our hearts and listen for a new way. We aim to plant 25 new sewing co-operatives in the next five years, employing at-risk or rescued survivors of human trafficking in Southeast Asia. |

Our States Have Crazy Shapes
Sep. 08, 2016
Lynn was raised in Bloomington, MN. Always an avid reader, she began writing her own stories while still in elementary school and pictured herself as a professional writer from a very young age. After college she attended several screenwriting workshops and began writing screenplays in earnest. Several years and seven screenplays later, Lynn put that ambition on the back burner to pursue other interests. When the urge to write hit again, she found that her passion had changed to children’s literature, and the “Dirkle Smat Adventure Books” were born. Lynn's other interests include family (a husband and two grown sons), law enforcement (recently retired police reserve officer in Bloomington) and gardening. She volunteers in the public schools, at church, and dabbles in local politics. http://lynngarthwaite.com/blog/

Nuturing the body and souls of the homeless, and enriching students' lives!
Sep. 22, 2016
http://www.peacehousecommunity.org/index.php Sr. Rose Tillemans, a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Paul Province, opened the door of Peace House Community at 510 East Franklin Avenue on October 17, 1985. This place provided a new and unique ministry in the heart of one of the poorest and crime ridden neighborhoods in south Minneapolis. Rose recognized that people's spirits and souls needed to be nourished and healed. This became a ministry of listening to the stories of those who had no one to listen to them. It would provide a place for the most misunderstood and least loved in our society to call “home”. It would be about what people need after they have been fed and clothed. Since the beginning Peace House Community strives to understand and love each person. |

Nov. 03, 2016
Renew Hope began as a vision and a dream. It started with one person saying they believed in me and my story. It ignited with one person saying your stories can make a difference in the lives of others. It blossomed with one person saying you have a gift in speaking and a gift in being a voice to others. Renew Hope was founded in November 2012. The whole message is the idea that when the whole world crumbles around you, there is still hope inside of you. |
