August 25th, 2024: The air in Falcon Heights buzzed with the familiar aroma of mini donuts, roasted corn, and livestock. It was the Minnesota State Fair, "The Great Minnesota Get-Together," and for a group of international visitors, it promised to be an unforgettable, albeit very hot, day.

Amidst the crowds and high temperatures, Rotary District 5950's District Governor Sharon Bloodworth, joined by Magdeline Aagard and Mike Benz from the Minneapolis Uptown Rotary Club, welcomed Rotary Youth Exchange students. These young ambassadors participated in one of Minnesota's beloved traditions.
Despite the heat, spirits remained high. For many students, the Fair's scale and unique offerings were a new spectacle. Mike Benz, a leader in the Youth Exchange program, guided the students, sharing insights. Magdeline Aagard ensured everyone stayed hydrated and found shade.
This hot August day was a vital part of their cultural immersion, offering a direct view of American life through the Fair. It highlighted the Rotary Youth Exchange Program's core mission: fostering international understanding and building bridges between cultures, one student at a time. The commitment from District 5950 and the Minneapolis Uptown Rotary Club makes these experiences possible, creating global citizens.
Our exchange students, guided by our very own Rotary hosts, carried away more than souvenirs. They gained new insights, shared laughter, and a deeper appreciation for diverse culture--all formed on this steamy, Minnesota day.
