The Minneapolis Uptown Rotary club is supporting Ella Baker fifth graders to participate in Junior Achievement's BizTown.

In May 2023, Ella Baker school will bring roughly 56 fifth-graders to Junior Achievement's BizTown thanks to the financial support of the Minneapolis Uptown Rotary club. Per the Junior Achievement website:

JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. JA BizTown is recommended for grades 4-6. It includes 12 teacher-led sessions prior to the simulation and one session following the simulation, with a culminating 4-5 hour visit to a hands-on simulated community or a virtual simulation. Students will build money management skills through a practical knowledge of economic concepts and banking practices and develop an understanding of basic business practices and responsibilities, among other objectives.
