More About Our Members in Current Leadership Roles:
President (Guy Johnson): Guy leads the club, setting the tone and vision for the year. Known for his friendly smile and "Nutrition Nugget," he fosters a welcoming atmosphere while aligning the club’s activities with Uptown Rotary’s values of leadership and service.
President Elect (Charmaine Dwyer): Charmaine, founder of the Tamarack Group in Minneapolis, is already making strides in her future presidential role. She brings strong organizational and leadership skills to the club and is committed to a smooth transition into leadership. Outside of Rotary, she enjoys cooking, traveling, and capturing nature through photography.
Community Service (Thomas H. Sopoci): Tom focuses on service projects benefiting both local and global communities, especially through his close relationship with Ella Baker School. His leadership ensures the success of annual events like author visits, field trips, and in-room libraries, while also building partnerships to maximize the impact of the club’s service initiatives.
Membership (Bill Sweatt): Bill is one of the friendliest members of our club, drawing people in with sincere conversation and a deep love for his community. He hosts events like his annual block party and solstice celebrations, fostering strong relationships that translate into increased membership and a vibrant, active club.
Membership Co-chair (Steph Swanson): Steph is a State Farm agent by day and a Rotary rock-star the rest of the time. Known for her unabashed hugs and her love for her family, fellow Rotarians, and her community, her sharp wit and joyful personality make her a key player in member engagement and retention.
Programs Chair (Tess Tierney): Tess is a world traveler and an organizational pro, juggling a wide range of requests for featured speakers with ease. Her work with Kate ensures the club’s programs are well-coordinated and enriching, offering members meaningful and engaging content.
Programs Chair (Kate Van Slyck): Kate sets the bar for engagement in the club. Whether volunteering at Joyce Uptown Food Shelf, Biz-Town, or organizing local cleanups at Lake Bde Maka Ska, she is always connecting with the community and fellow Rotarians. Soft-spoken yet powerful, Kate leads with determination and passion for Rotary’s mission.
Public Image Chair (Adam Kooyer): One of Uptown Rotary’s newest members, Adam is making an impact through the club’s digital transformation. He’s revamping Uptown Rotary's web presence and improving communications to better reflect their mission. Outside his cloud engineering day job at an Identity Services company, Adam enjoys restoring vintage arcade and pinball machines.
Rotary Foundation (Magdeline Aagard): A veteran Uptown Rotarian and past president, Magdeline currently serves as our foundation chair. She manages fundraising and resources to support humanitarian programs and has been instrumental in fostering a deeper connection with the Bakken Museum and its community impact.
Secretary (Dale Snyder): A past president, Dale is known for his sharp wit and his knack for adding fun to every meeting with a well-timed quip. Detail-oriented and organized, he handles secretary duties with precision while focusing on his passion for Haiti Outreach. His team-player attitude makes him a reliable and enjoyable presence in the club.
Sub-Club Director (Richard Haglund): Founder of the Sub-Club, Richard is all about action in the community. From creating emergency bags to offering local business discounts, he’s always engaged in initiatives that make a tangible impact. Known for his positivity and "just being happy" attitude, Richard also made waves conducting an orchestra during a recent trip to Italy!
Treasurer (Seth Tenpenny): Seth keeps the club’s finances on track with meticulous attention to detail. He manages funds responsibly, ensuring resources are allocated effectively for operational expenses and charitable projects. Known for his calm demeanor and solid financial expertise, Seth plays a key role in ensuring the club’s continued success and financial health.
